CHRISTMAS THOUGHTS 2007

It is one week before Christmas. The malls are crazy…the toys are already picked over…the tired shoppers are showing signs of bewilderment, while the kids are getting more and more excited. They are looking under the tree, and in all the hiding places where parents hide the gifts…. wondering “What’s for me?”

As we prepare for our children and grandchildren during this most wonderful time of the year, I am wondering “What are the best gifts we can give?” Madell and I love Christmas. She makes lists of gift ideas for everyone, and still absolutely thinks that our own five grown kids still need as many gifts to open as the grandchildren!

Oh, yes…the grandchildren! I wonder, what are the best gifts for them? There’s Brad—he’s 16, and then Kirsten, 14, and Molly and Ben are 13… what do you get teenagers that they will really like and that you can afford? The next set are boys just still young enough to like a few toys, but really too big to ask for them anymore--Brett is 11, Grady and AJ are both 9. Then there’s Morgan, 6…going on 16, and Gideon, 4, who loves everything from Build-a-Bear to Transformers. And then the babies, Madi, 22 months old, and Katie, 14 months old, who will probably love the paper and the bows more than the gifts!

You can imagine what our house looks like in the aftermath of Christmas! In the midst of the chaos, there is underneath all the wrappings the glow of the best gifts! These are the gifts that are the most precious---Legacy, Faith, Family Togetherness, Reading the Family Bible, Singing around the Family Circle, Sharing Moments that are Priceless! These are the ones passed on from one generation to another. These are things that money cannot buy, but that really describe what we want to give to our children and our grandchildren.

In many ways, this has been a difficult year for our Church Family. Six of our beloved members have been promoted to their heavenly home in the last six months of this year. Many of our members have also had loved ones to pass away this year. Can you imagine what kind of a Christmas they will celebrate this year in Heaven? They are opening the best gifts ever!

We want you to know that through all the celebration of this glorious season, our thoughts are with you, our precious friends. We pray that you will find the best gifts in your heart and in your home during Christmas, and that God’s Presence will be with you. From our home and our hearts to You, we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas!

With our Love and Prayers,
Pastor and Madell
